October 2016 match results

We had a great turnout today for the last match of the season.  It was great to see everyone and thanks for attending this year.  Eric brought a very nice CG-63 match rifle and duked it out with Tim who had an AR in 7.62x39.  In vintage Curtis shot a great score with his M-39 just one point from beating me!  Bob and Allen just behind with their M1/M14.  In pistol Bob and Tim brought some red dot sighted pistols for fun and shot great scores.  Eric shot a nice solid score with this P-64 compact pistol.

Hope to see you next March for our first match of 2017!

September 2016 match results

We had a really nice day and a very nice turnout especially considering the holiday weekend.  Theme for this month was WW2 and before sniper rifles with scopes limited to 4x power.  We had an actual 1903A4, a replica from creedmore, a nice M1D with original mount and weaver alaskan scope, and a Yugo M-48 with a scout type scope setup.  We welcomed David Yarger who came to shoot his Finn match rifle for fun, I broke the group up into sniper, iron sight and "other" since we had two other AR shooters as well.  Ted shot a great score with his iron sight AR to just beat Tim shooting a scoped AR, and ahead of David who had a very nice score considering he had two "5" crossfires that didn't count. Bob just beat out Allen Harper in iron sight class.  In sniper my new creedmore 1903A4-gery did a very good job for me, even if I was struggling in offhand, Allen's M1D shot a very nice 100-11V prone, and Curtis' M48 did very well as well in prone.  Steve's original 1903A4 also had some very nice strings.  In pistol scores were very good, with me edging out Tim, followed by Allen F. and Curtis with his Sig 220 and Max shooting for the first time in a long time with the VZ-61 Skorpion.

Thanks to all who shot and we'll see you for the final match in October.

August 2016 Match Results

We had a beautiful warm day and a very nice turnout. Scores in both rifle and pistol were very close and very high!  I'm glad to see the pistol scores getting really good, competition is hot!  I had a good day with my 1903A1 but Tim was hot on my heels with his 1917, and Curtis shot one of his best scores with his swede.  Eric Johnson brought out a neat restored Norwegian Krag Carbine that was just beautiful that shot very well and also had danish krag long rifle for show.  Bob G rounded out the top 5 and his scores have been steadily improving.  In pistol again, Tim was hot on my heels, and Eric shot a great score with his 45 colt SAA.  Bob and Allen were right behind.

Next month will be a 60 shot match with the theme of ww2 or before sniper rifles.  We will do 5 shot rapid fire strings instead of 10 shot strings.  We will still have the pistol match afterward as usual.

July 2016 match results

What a great 4th of July weekend.  Warm, sunny just perfect.  We had a nice turnout of 11 shooters.  Theme was foreign bolt and it turned out we had three swedes, a swiss and a mosin.  Swedes took three of the top four spots.  Welcome to Mark who came and shot a carbine for the first time.  Welcome back to Ted who has been shooting serious matches for a while. Scores were good today, I was able to set a new record for rapid fire prone with bolt gun with a 100-9V upping the previous record by Alan Flanagan of 100-6V.  Pistol match had 9 shooters and Olivia came and shot her VZ-61 skorpion for the first time in a year.  Pistol scores were very close with only 7 points separating the top four shooters.  Curtis shot a great score with his Makarov.  Next month is a 40 shot match, no theme followed by the pistol match.

June 2016 Rifle/Pistol Results

Had just a beautiful day with a slight breeze and while it was hot it wasn't terrible and I had brought some ice water in a jug that kept everyone hydrated.  We saw Dean back in action, it's been quite a while and welcomed Bob G who shot a very respectable prone rifle score for his first time out with his M1.  Curtis shot one of his best rifle scores ever, and Eric brought out a neat Finn M-24 with sig barrel. In pistol Eric shot a very nice score with his remington rand ww2 era 1911A1. Next month will be "Foreign Bolt" and will be an 80 shot match followed by the pistol match, hope to see you there.

May 2016 Results

Perfect weather today and 7 shooters.  Rifle of the month was "semi auto battle rifle" and everyone was shooting one.  I just barely out v'd allen for the top spot, he had a great score, and Tim was right behind us for third.  In Pistol Tim was right behind me for second, and Eric had a very nice score for third with his new Vaquero SAA in 44-40, very bright and shiny, maybe not the best for a sunny day, but definite style points. Max came and shot the VZ-61 and did well, especially after not having shot anything for two years. Allen had a problem with his 1911 and had to stop but it was easily fixed after the match.   Cool item of the day was Curtis' Russian motorcycle with side-car, a copy of 1941 german military design with the side car having a driven wheel, very neat.  Next month, is a 40 shot match, no theme, and then pistol followed right after.

April 2016 results

We had beautiful weather today.  It was nice to see Bob and Tim back.  There was no theme today.  Tim brought out his 16" AR rifle for fun, it has a forward mounted 2x pistol scope and did quite well.  I managed to beat him by a single point with my rusty old Swiss M-96/11, but Allen was right behind.  Curtis did quite well even though he was struggling with some ligament issues in his trigger finger.  In pistol, we had great scores as well with Tim nearly getting me with his Beretta M-9, with only X's making the difference. Curtis and Bob also shot very well to round out the top four.  Welcome back to Dan, he brought a nice ed brown 1911 match gun to shoot for fun in the pistol match, hope to see you again.

Next month will be an 80 shot match with the theme "vintage semi auto battle rifles"

March 2016 Results

Weather held off today and we just got a bit of sprinkle on the last stage of the pistol match.  We had 7 shooters for the first match and all but one was shooting the rifle of the month, springfield rifles.  It was nice to see Jason again.  Allen shot a very nice score and a great V count to win the rifle match, congrats!  Pistol had four shooters with a mix of weapons from a Norwegian contract Belgian Nagant pistol from 1893 to a star super B.  Curtis shot his best score ever!

Thanks to all who came, next month will be a 40 shot match, no theme, followed by pistol.

October 2015 Match Results

We had awesome weather and our best turnout in a long time.  Was great to see everyone and welcome to Christie and Don.  They came with Bob and shot the rifle and pistol match for fun to try it out.  Tim brought a neat wood stocked ar-15 match rifle for fun as well.  Scores were really great today, Curtis shot a great score with his 1911 swiss long rifle.  Pistol scores were very close today as well.  Tim shot the pistol match for the first time and did very well, and Niko shot a very solid score as well.  Everyone seemed to like the door prizes.  We'll schedule a target party in February to replace cardboard and targets before the March match.  Have a good winter season and see you next year.

Match Information

Vintage Military Rifle/Pistol is a fun way to use those military collectibles in a competition environment. Rifles and pistols for the match should have been designed/issued before 1961 and were general issue to troops.

Rifles must be in as-issued configuration and caliber, no bedding or match parts, original barrel contours and original style battle sights.

Rifle Targets are set at 200 yards on the 200/300 rifle range.  We shoot 10 rounds for record in each position including slow fire prone, rapid fire prone, rapd fire sitting, and slow fire standing.  Rapid fire stages require a reload, and slings may be used for all positions except standing.  The 1950's era 5V target is used. Sign up at 8:30, shoot at 9 on the 200/300 bigbore range.  Round count is 40 shots plus 2 optional sighters before shooting for score in prone only.

Pistols should be as close to as-issued configuration as is practical and with fixed metalic sights.  Makarovs, Sig 220, CZ-70's, CZ-82's, and standard M9 style pistols are also allowed. 1911/1911A1 pistols should meet the following criteria:  fixed sights, 5" barrel/slide, no beavertail grip safeties or adjustable triggers.

The vintage pistol match is shot in bay 10 of the action range and the course of fire includes both left and right hand shooting,  at 7, 14 and 21 yards. Each string of fire is 6 shots and total round count is 36 rounds.  There are no rapid reloads, so only one magazine is needed if shooting a semi-auto. The NRA B-27 target is used. No holster is required, all shooting starts from the low ready position.  You do need a case that can cover the pistol when moving to and from the line.

Matches are held at a private club open to members and their guests.

September 2015 Match Results

We had really nice moderate weather and a very nice turnout today.  Theme was "sniper" and we had five shooters.  The other 5 shooters were shooting normal vintage rifles.  Ed had a very nice original 1903A4, three of us had repro Mosin PU snipers and Eric had his Swede 41B replica that he had put together from pieces.  He was shooting vintage swede match ammo as well!.  Curtis just out V'd Allen to take 3rd place in sniper. In his defence, however, something happened inside Allen's scope during the match that turned part of the optics blurry, and he had to finish with it that way.  We welcomed Will as an official tcgc member, unfortunatley he didn't notice the round count was 60 shots today so had to skip the rapid fire stages.  Dennis was our new shooter,so he was getting used to things but hopefully he'll be back.  I awarded top 3 in both sniper and vintage class since we had enough turnout. The pistol match had 9 people and scores were really great today with only 1-2 points separating 2nd-4th and 5th through 8th place!  Eric had a nice score with his australian lend lease victory model with actual 1944 australian holster. Niko shot a great score for the first time shooting his M&P.  My wife Sophie came out and shot my VZ-61 really well with no misses, and she hasn't shot for two years!  She also was nice enough to pull targets for me so I could run the rifle match and shoot. We just celebrated 26 years together!

Remember our final 2015 match will be the 1st saturday in October, 40 shot rifle and 48 shot pistol.

August 2015 Vintage Military Rifle match results

It was a very nice day, no wind, just a little smokey from the nearby fire.  Theme was semi-auto battle rifle, represented by two M1's and two M1A's.  We had one new shooter, whos name I already forgot, sorry, who was shooting an enfield but had some issues with his reloads, I think he will be back, he had a taste of what it was like, and had fun.  Scores were good today with the 2-4th place very close. Ted gave us a quick update on his and Jason's Camp Perry experience. I had a very good day today, setting a new record for slow fire prone 100-12V and a new overall match record with 397-30V.  I dropped the three points in offhand, which wasn't very good today, I threw a lot of shots, but fortunately they were still barely in the 5 ring.

We had very nice weather, but a light turnout today.  We had two more people show up to shoot the pistol match and welcome to Tan!  Eric brought his very nice 1868 trapdoor springfield, I had my 1898 Krag, we had a 1917, and an ishapore 2A1.  David brought his match service rifle for fun and shot his best score yet.  Eric brough out his new vaquero and shot a very nice score, David shot his best pistol score and Tan placed fourth in his first match!

See you at the end of the month where the theme is Semi-auto Battle Rifles

July 2015 Vintage Military Rifle match Results

We had 8 shooters for the match today.  Theme was "Korea/Vietnam" and every shooter shot an elgible rifle.  We had many M1A's, along with two M1's, a soviet SKS and an AK, and a colt SP1.  I apologize for not having score sheets and for leaving one of the radios dead, we managed to make due in any case.  I also did not notice that there was a tie for a record score by Allen Flanagan with 100-9V slow fire prone with a semi-auto, and a new record by Eric Johnson with 100-8V for prone rapid with a semi-auto, congrats to both!  Eric also had a great offhand score of 94-3V!

July 4, 2015 Match Results

We had beautiful weather, about 75-80 degrees in the morning and 8 shooters came to enjoy what is left of our second amendment rights on this Independence day!  One of my Nephews from France was visiting and he tried both the rifle and pistol for the first time and did great.  He had no misses with the rifle, including offhand!  His pistol score was also great, he had four misses because he was pressing the trigger so lightly he was doing double taps accidentaly...but otherwise had no shots outside the scoring rings!  Thanks to Allen to bringing an American flag for everyone!  I got the OK from the doctor to start shooting again and I could tell it had been a while.  Bobby Keet came to shoot again, been a while since we had seen him.  Ed finally found all the parts for his revolver and was able to join us in the pistol match.

June 2015 Military Rifle/Pistol Results

We had beautiful weather and a very nice turnout today, glad to see everyone and the new shooters.  Welcome to Geoffrey and Luke, hope to see you again.  Eric brought a very nice sig barreled Remington 91 mosin that was converted by the finns to an M-24 guard rifle, very unusual.  Bob shot a very respectible score to win the rifle match.  Pistol scores were very good today.  Eric shot a personal best with his Lahti.  Since I was recovering from my bicep surgery I shot the match one handed, but my old colt still shot very well.

May 2015 Rifle match results

Allen F ran the match since i was out recovering.

We had 4 people show up not including me.  Since I only had 3 shooters going for score, we decided to forego awards and the $5 fee and just did a fun shoot.  We used minimal supplies - if there is a cost, i'll cover it.    Jon B. showed up and shot with his own materials and targets along with us - He said he'd like to do it again.  All shooters except Jon had a WW2 gun.

May 2015 Military rifle/pistol match results

Where the heck was everyone?  They must have been fishing for salmon or dancing around the May-Pole, but they weren't shooting....sigh....Allen, David and I duked it out and we had Christopher join us for the pistol match.  Weather was great.  I had a really great day, considering my bicep problem, but forgot to bring any sighter ammo.  My swiss 96/11 was really on however, as my first shot was a 5 and I just kept going.  I was able to set a new record for bolt gun in the prone/offhand aggregate with a 199-9V dropping just one point in offhand.  Allen shot a very respectible score and David is starting to get his old form back with some practice and coaching.   Pistol was short and sweet, with David shooting his M-9 for the first time and Christopher joining us with a springfield mil-spec 45.
