June 2015 Military Rifle/Pistol Results

We had beautiful weather and a very nice turnout today, glad to see everyone and the new shooters.  Welcome to Geoffrey and Luke, hope to see you again.  Eric brought a very nice sig barreled Remington 91 mosin that was converted by the finns to an M-24 guard rifle, very unusual.  Bob shot a very respectible score to win the rifle match.  Pistol scores were very good today.  Eric shot a personal best with his Lahti.  Since I was recovering from my bicep surgery I shot the match one handed, but my old colt still shot very well.

Allen F ran the match since i was out recovering.

Allen wrote:

We had 4 people show up not including me.  Since I only had 3 shooters going for score, we decided to forego awards and the $5 fee and just did a fun shoot.  We used minimal supplies - if there is a cost, i'll cover it.    Jon B. showed up and shot with his own materials and targets along with us - He said he'd like to do it again.  All shooters except Jon had a WW2 gun.

May 2015 Military rifle/pistol match results

Where the heck was everyone?  They must have been fishing for salmon or dancing around the May-Pole, but they weren't shooting....sigh....Allen, David and I duked it out and we had Christopher join us for the pistol match.  Weather was great.  I had a really great day, considering my bicep problem, but forgot to bring any sighter ammo.  My swiss 96/11 was really on however, as my first shot was a 5 and I just kept going.  I was able to set a new record for bolt gun in the prone/offhand aggregate with a 199-9V dropping just one point in offhand.  Allen shot a very respectible score and David is starting to get his old form back with some practice and coaching.   Pistol was short and sweet, with David shooting his M-9 for the first time and Christopher joining us with a springfield mil-spec 45.

April 2015 Military Pistol and Rifle match Results

Nice day and turnout, Rob had his Uzi out and had a challenge getting it sighted in at 200 yards, but once he did he got several 4's and 5's in a row offhand, and also got two V's!   Eric had a very nice 100-10V prone and Steve Hodge had a great second match placing third.  Curtis had a beautiful Star Super Model B in the pistol match, very reasonably priced, very well made, a beautiful 9mm in a 1911 style grip frame.  Eric shot a great pistol score with his new Victory model.

February 2015 Match results

For our first informal match of the year we had a great turnout.  We had two shooters using military match rifles and the rest using legal vintage military rifles.  Curtis brought the "Flame thrower" M-44, Robert was getting so jumpy shooting next to him we asked him to yell "fire in the hole" before he shot, that seemed to help. Unfortunately Curtis forgot to unfold his bayonet for offhand and didn't figure out why he was getting so many shots way off center till halfway through.  I was able to shoot my 91/30 that I won back in 2006 in the first tcgc 5V match which is what started me on this whole rusty gun obsession.....It seemed to like the Hornady 150 .312 SST bullets just fine.  We issued the new awards this week, a pin with the V logo and people seemed to like them. Thanks to all who showed up and we'll see you next week for the official start of the season.

October 2014 Rifle Match results

We had our final match of the year today, fortunately the rain held off till we were finished.  We started the match with offhand this time since the sun was out, and didn't shoot any sighters.  Everyone seemed to like this as they weren't so tired in the offhand stage.  Rifle of the month was "100 years or older" and was represented by two swede 96's and a swiss 1911 rifle.  Bob brought out his new special grade cmp M1 rifle.  Steve had a bit of trouble with a reload that cost him a few points, and Allen Harper had two PPU swede bullets go missing in an otherwise great rapid fire target.  Congrats to the top shooters, and hope to see you next March.

October Vintage Military Rifle/Pistol Match results 2014

What a perfect beautiful day!  10 shooters had a great time.  Scores were pretty close in both rifle and pistol.  Congrats to the top 50%.  Bob kept us awake with his M-44 "boomer"...and Ed shot a very respectible score with his Carbine and was joined by Will also shooting a carbine.  4th saturday of the month will be the final match of the season, ROM is 100 years or older, so your rifle has to be at least 100 years old.  That is just the theme, you are welcome of course to shoot any other eligible vintage military rifle. In pistol scores were close as well.  We had two yugo M-57's, Allen Just eaking out the other Allen for 4th place.  Bob shot a great score with his M&P.

September 2014 Sniper Rifle match

We had a good turnout for the vintage rifle match, theme was sniper rifles.  We were well represented by 3 PU snipers, one swede AG41B and one real live 1903A4.  Congrats to the top 4 shooters!  Everyone shot really well and scores were really close. All of the PU shooters struggled with head position becuase the scope is so darn high and was hard to get even a chin weld on the stock, and the bolt is so far forward you have to break position to load a new round.  Ted managed to come in the top four even though he wasn't shooting with a scope.  Offhand is tough with magnification!  Just two more matches to go for the season, see you next week for the rifle/pistol match.

July 2014 rifle/pistol match results

We had a beautiful day with lots of shooters and some great scores.  Eric brought out a nice Gew 98 all matching and shot a respectible score, and Allen H shot a really nice score as well.  I got a chance to finally shoot my last two M-39 finns, a sako 1942 in a straight stock and a 1943 SKY, and both shot really well.  I have to give Ed credit for shooting his sharps, he got really tired of olding up that lead pipe in offhand..... Pistol match had a great turnout as well.  Matthew shot a much improved score for his second match.  Allen and Eric were neck and neck with my former victory models and had really nice scores.  Congrats to the top 50%.   4th saturday match theme is Korea/Vietnam, so anything the beligerents would have been using that was issue to general troops would be ok, mosins, sks, AK, garand, carbine, AR-15A1 or SP1, M14 etc...as long as it is not a match rifle, etc.

Rifle of the month was "Allies" and was represented mainly by M1 Garand's and one mosin and a SMLE.  Scores were pretty tight this month with Bob taking the high score honors and the rest of us bunched up behind.  Alen Flanagan would have gladly traded a few of his V's for some more points, he said:)  Next match will be Saturday the 4th and will be the 40 shot rifle and pistol match, hope to see you there and congrats to the top 50% today!

June 2014 Military Rifle-Pistol Match Results

Beautiful day of shooting today.   A mix of rifles today, springfields, M1's and a finn, argentine and a Romy G ak with donkey D**ck forend.  Scores were pretty close today. Curtis shot a great score with my former FR-8 rifle.  Allen suggested in September since I will be gone they might do a rifle of the month theme called "Rifles Frank has sold to us"....we'll see:)   Pistol was well attended and people liked the action range a bit better.  Olivia shot an excellent score with her VZ-61 to win the match beating the "old man" for the first time.  I had some issues with some new bullets in my luger keyholing at 21 yards, so had four misses in the shoulder area because of that. Allen was close behind followed by Steve.

See you then:

May 2014 Vintage Rifle and Pistol Match Results

We had a nice turnout today.  We installed new number boards and had the first bullet holes put into them by a new shooter:)   The are nice and make it easier to find your target although I think we actually had more crossfires than normal:)

Welcome to Will our new shooter trying his hand with an M1 carbine.   Jeffrey brought a neat tanker type 16" garand that barked pretty loud.  Steve shot one of his best offhand scores in a long time.  It was great to see Dean back again after his knee replacement.  Niko shot his best prone score yet with his first bullets he cast and loaded himself!

Scores were pretty close.  Congrats to the top 50%!  I was trying out my new 1909 Peruvian mauser and my 1891/1912 Peruvian mauser, and shot the same score with both!
In pistol we also had some good scores with Steve also shooting a personal best with his new SAA and Bob also shooting his personal best with his M&P.
